What happened in P&A:
The distance between the Archer pump to grease head is 40+ meters, with the hose full of grease it took more time than expected to fill the grease head and pressure up to 300 bar.
The hose/pump is located next to the WL winch for well control purposes, so it can be easily accessed, but the distance from here to grease head meant an 80m hose was used, which took a while to pressure up with the viscous grease.

What Was Planned

Pressure up Archer grease head to 300 bar in well A-2.

What Was Learned

It takes time to pump the grease through 80m of hose up to the grease head and pressure to 300 bar.

This happened on well A-3 also, but the lesson was not logged or relayed, either by operator or by the service company. So a new crew was onboard when carrying out the job this time, unaware of what had happened previously.

What Actions Are Required

Hose length should be optimised to reduce the time taken. 2 x 40m hoses were sent out, explore option of sending more varied lengths to make overall distance to pump shorter.

Potential to relocate the pump to the BOP roof, although this makes it more difficult to access for WL crew.

Option to start pressuring/pumping of grease at an earlier stage, to reduce the overall time taken.
